We all have the weeks when we need to do a cheaper meal plan. A cheap week meal plan. Whether our big bills all fall on the same week or we’re trying to save up for something. Put extra in savings. Whatever it may be we all have those weeks of needing to make a cheaper meal plan.
Or maybe we need to do strive to do this every single week (me).
And I’m working on trying to do this more. I do struggle with budgeting and having a CHEAP meal plan. It does not come simply to me to save on meal planning. But I am working on this and plan to accomplish getting our grocery budget lower.

Can you relate? Or are you already great at finding the cheapest and best deals?
If you’re like me and want to do better than I will gladly share with you my best tips on how to have a cheap week meal plan. Of course from what I have learned so far.
Shop your home first
Yep. Before you even meal plan go ahead and look in your pantry, fridge, and freezer and see what you have. I use to be so bad about not meal planning with what I already had. But once you actually take the time to look and see what you already have you realize there is so much you can cook from what you have.
Check the ads
Right now I mainly shop at Kroger and Walmart and they both have apps you can go and look at their weekly ads for the foods they have on sale. Go ahead and check to see what is on sale. This will give you ideas of what meats and sides to cook with.
Order your groceries
I know not every area has this option but if you can go ahead and order your groceries online and just go to the store to pick them up then do it. This helps you to not overspend by putting items in your buggy you do not need. Also, if you’re a mom having to take your children to the store this is the biggest win.
If you don’t have this option then fingers crossed that your area gets it soon!
Do simple meals
Sometimes it’s easy to get on Pinterest and cook some random recipe we find which calls for all new ingredients. Keep your meals simple on a cheap week. You can even do grilled cheese and tomato soup for supper.
This is a big one I had to learn. If you’re already going to be buying an ingredient from the store and not using all of it then find another meal/recipe that calls for the same ingredient. Whether it’s using leftover meat for another meal or using up the hamburger buns for sloppy joes on another night. Get creative so nothing goes to waste.
Write yourself a budget
Budgets can be hard but go ahead and decide what you’re going to spend and don’t go over it. Tweak and change your meals to make it fit your budget. Now of course finding the right budget for you and your family may take time but definitely give it a try.
