I remember being pregnant with my daughter and searching daily on Pinterest for lists of the must-have baby essentials. Not knowing what I needed and was worried I would forget something (like the store wasn’t right down the road). But I just wanted a basic must-have list of what I needed.
As a newly pregnant mom getting overwhelmed by not knowing what you need is normal. We’ve never done it before.
But when I got pregnant with my son, my second child, it was easy making a list of what I actually needed. Thankfully, the second time is less stressful because you just have a better understanding of the mom life. We’ve done it before, gone through all of the baby stuff we were unsure about before.
There are plenty of baby items that are nice to have but you learn that as long as you have diapers, wipes, your babe and a sweet nightgown you’re ready to roll!
Every child is different with what baby items they need and will love but through the process, I learned to just be flexible. These baby items are the things I loved with either both of my kids or by the time I had Myles, my second child I was so glad to have found it.

No, I am not a cloth diaper mama. But I do love Gerber cloth diapers to use as burp cloths. They beat any other ‘burp cloth’. They absorb all the pee and spit up coming your way. If you are breastfeeding you will love the cloth diapers for when your boobs decide to spray milk everywhere when baby pulls their mouth off while eating. Yep. It happens.
Get them monogrammed but don’t worry about spending money on the cute burp cloths just because they are cute.
Every child is different when it comes to pacis. Some babies do not use them at all. Some babies only take a certain kind. With my daughter, we love lovee loved WubbaNub pacifiers. The WubbaNub has a plush toy on the end to help with not misplacing the pacifier and sweet for your baby. With my son, we didn’t want out daughter to come and take his paci since we got her off of them only two months before he was born so we went with a plain paci. He likes the Avent brand.
Swaddles and Sleep Sacks
Aden + Anais make the sweetest swaddles. Get a three or four pack and you’re set. They are so soft and sweet. We used these over and over again. At home, in the car seat, over the stroller for coverage and even as a breastfeeding cover-up.
With my daughter, we stopped at the swaddles. But with my son, he loved to feel secure even after busting out of the swaddles so I got him the sleeping sack. He is now six months old and still sleeps in a Zipadee-Zip by ‘Sleeping Baby’.
Both of my babies did so well in their rock-n-play sleeper. They’re so easy to move. If you want them around you when they are napping you can up and move the Rock-n-play sleeper. Just convenient all around.
Ok, so each baby is different with what they will love. You can choose one type to go with or have all three. But when you need to get something done like use the restroom, start supper or change your toddler’s diaper it is nice to have something to set your baby in. I rotated all three of these. Then when my baby outgrew them I sold them on Facebook to pregnant people I knew. Wahlah. Worth it to me!
This one is not a newborn essential BUT when your baby starts wanting to sit up this is the PERFECT seat. Both of my children use(d) this. I put it in the kitchen when I am cooking or cleaning, bring it outside when we’re playing or gardening and I even load it up on trips to other people’s house. Or getting ready in the bathroom. Love love love!
There is nothing sweeter than a freshly washed baby. Shea moisture has the best products. They leave out a list long of harmful ingredients. No parabens, no phthalates, no paraffin, no mineral oil, no DEA, no petroleum, and no propylene. Which is awesome. Plus they have all different kinds of products including body wash for mommy.
Baby outfits are precious but I am such a huge fan of the zip up sleep gowns. Do not do snaps if you can help it. Babies pee and poop a lot and that is a lot of snaps. Over and over again. Save yourself the hassle. While your baby is small you want them cozy which is why these are a favorite.
We did not do a sound machine with my daughter but my son’s sleep went from great to not so great and a sound machine made a world of difference. Does this spoil a child to needing a sound machine to go to sleep? Maybe but when they’re not sleeping as well you will do whatever it takes for a good nap and better sleep at night.
Both of my children drool(ed) like crazy. Especially while chewing on their teether. So having a bib on daily was a must. If not they would have drenched clothes. Aden + Anais have cute boy and girl bibs!
With my first baby I had a shoulder diaper bag but with my son, I decided to get a backpack diaper bag AND I love it! I put both of my kid’s things in their and put it on my back and can still carry a car seat and hold my toddler’s hand. Superrrr mom! Win win!
I love the Pack ‘N Play for when my babies outgrew their small newborn beds but I was not ready for them to go in their own room. But also for when we go and stay places like a family members house or hotel. It is easy to load up and use for our baby to sleep in.
You can’t forget Gripe Water! Babies get tummy aches and this all-natural remedy is great for pain that include gas, colic, fussiness, and hiccups. I love that this product is natural and helps give my baby relief.
If you have your baby, diapers and plenty of caffeine you will honestly be just fine. Kinda kidding, kinda not. Now that I think about it I am not sure why I didn’t put a Keurig on my list of favorite must-haves?
Don’t stress the small things, learn to be flexible and everything will be just fine. Easier said than done, I know.
What must have baby products am I forgetting? I don’t get much sleep so I stay forgetting.. Mom brain!
